Fine art and paintings

Twentieth-century American abstraction, a Burmese watercolor master, Aboriginal painting from Western Australia, and 19th-century British and Southern portraiture. All are offered across our two November auctions.

Highlights

Henrietta Berk’s Changing Weather is a large oil by the California painter. It is estimated at $3,500–5,000. U Ngwe Gaing’s watercolor of a lady playing the saung harp comes from one of Burma’s best-known 20th-century painters. Freddie Timms’ Violet River Country (1995) is a work by the Gija artist from Warmun in the East Kimberley.

From the Southern Historian’s Collection come a mid-1800s portrait of Alice Gertrude Wright attributed to Henry Byrd, William G. Meadows’ Stable Interior, an 1867 Italian gouache of Vesuvius erupting, and early hand-colored engravings.

These lots are offered in Birmingham Modern: Dunbar to Diamonds (Sunday, November 15) and The Southern Historian’s Collection (Sunday, November 8). Bidding is online at LiveAuctioneers, with pickup in Leeds, Alabama or shipping.
